journalist

resume

I'm a journalist & copywriter reporting from Pakistan, Arkansas, Mississippi and the Standing Rock camps. Mostly my work is at VICE. I'm a Columbia University J-school alum, and a photographer & content strategist for hire & hobby. My other titles include: researcher, editor, fact-checker, proofreader, blogger & ghostwriter.

You can read my latest piece, exploring public space, ownership and authority through grassroots restoration efforts at Lincoln Beach —the long-neglected but never-abandoned Black beach and former amusement park in New Orleans East —at Places Journal.

Currently I teach journalism at Tulane University and take commercial work on a limited basis.

Want to read the most impactful story I’ve ever written?

What about the (apparently!) most controversial piece, resulting in dozens of livid phone calls and emails and over 100 (now scrubbed from the web) angry comments? Here’s a piece that was really fun to report (tbh, there have been so many). Interested in my nod to Susan Orlean? What about the most amazing place journalism has taken me? And I’m particularly proud of this longform piece on the segregated proms at a public Georgia high school—held not in 1960 but in 2009.
